Joining A Beginner Yoga Class To Start Being Healthy

Yoga can seem intimidating, especially if you feel you are not very fit or flexible. There are many types of yoga out there and there is sure to be one that suits you perfectly. Do a little research and decide what type of yoga you want to do. Generally the best type of yoga for a beginner is Hatha or Vinyasa yoga.

In fact the best introduction to yoga is to start with a beginner yoga class. This may not be a specific type of yoga but one that is designed to teach you basic poses and ease you into other styles. Use a beginner yoga class as a starting point; you can explore other styles once you have mastered your beginner class.

Equipment

There isn’t much equipment that you need when you sign up for a beginner yoga class. At most you will need a yoga mat, other than that you need some comfortable clothes. Any clothes that you would normally wear to workout are fine, though your clothing should be breathable and not too tight.

You can buy your own mat or rent one from the studio or gym most of the time. If you are serious about practicing yoga then you might eventually want to buy your own mat once you start practicing outside of your beginner yoga class.

Choosing A Class

Think about what fitness goals you have before you sign up for a beginner yoga class. If you want to limber up then a simple Hatha yoga class is fine. If you want greater tone then maybe you should try Vinyasa yoga. Both these forms of yoga are suitable for beginners.

If you already belong to a gym then check to see if they offer a class, it’s a good way to get a taste of yoga. If you want something that deals more with the spiritual side of things then you might want to go to a studio that only teaches yoga.

Different people have different reasons for doing yoga and if you choose the wrong class, chances are you won’t like it. Experiment a little and do some research before you sign up. Be realistic about your own fitness level and what you can do.

Before Class

Before your class be sure not to eat a heavy meal. Going to your beginner yoga class on a full stomach is not conducive to stretching and posing. You might feel nauseous as well. Drink plenty of water before, during and after your workout.
